U.S. Barge LLC is an innovative barge manufacturer based in the Pacific Northwest. Building on our participating companies’ experience in the marine industry, U.S. Barge offers innovative solutions for rugged products. We are adding to our team an experienced STRUCTURAL STEEL ESTIMATOR.
In this position you will perform material take-off and estimating for large marine construction and steel fabrication. You will occasionally operate without established parameters and will often be involved in development and/or decisions regarding new policy or guidelines, as well as responsibility for end results. We expect that you will maintain a variety of professional relationships and are capable of determining the appropriate level of communication and interaction for various situations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform material take-off and quantity survey
• Develop material and subcontract pricing for estimates
• Produce complete estimates for final approval incorporating quantity take off, labor standards, subcontract and materials pricing
• Evaluate contract changes for estimating cost impact
• Evaluate and report on estimate vs. actual performance
• Utilize computer aided estimating software
• Create purchase requisitions for successful bids, evaluate contract changes for estimating cost impact and measures estimate vs. actual performance evaluations
• Identify, recommend, and implement changes to improve productivity, reduce cost, or otherwise improve overall company performance
• Assist with the development and documentation of estimating procedures
• Develop and maintain resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
• Coordinate with other departments to ensure the effectiveness of various programs essential to the work environment
• Assist with program development, implementation, and changes as needed
• Assist with special projects as needed
Qualifications
REQUIRED BACKGROUND AND SKILLS:
• Experience with, or practical knowledge of, heavy steel fabrication estimating
• Knowledge in prints and specifications in the marine industry and/or large steel fabrication environments
• Familiarity with outfitting equipment and working knowledge of hydraulics, electrical and cargo systems preferred, but not required.
• Computer Skills -- Mastery of MS Word, Excel, Outlook. Ability to effectively utilize computer aided estimating tools. Working knowledge of AutoCAD and other computer aided drafting software
• Ability to review construction documents and understand the scope of work to bid
• The ability to think strategically while scheduling activities, resolving problems, performing root-cause analysis, and measuring performance
• Knowledge of computer aided estimating software applications
• Engineering background preferred, but not required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Requires physical and mental stamina appropriate to the performance of assigned duties the following represent illustrations of requirements- Sitting or standing for extended periods of time; primarily in an office setting but at times the work requires going into a heavy industrial setting. May be required to walk up stairs and ladders and aboard ships to interact with employees. May be required to work nights or weekends. Work involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and reaching with hands and arms. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee may be required to push, pull, lift and/or carry boxes or containers.
